Vijay’s Mersal was one of the top grossers of 2017 and the most talked about film on Twitter. The Atlee directorial impressed Vijay’s fans with his three different avatars and the film scored big points for speaking about corruption in the medical industry. Now, Variety has reported that this film also starring Nithya Menen, Kajal Aggarwal and Samantha Akkineni will now release in China.
HGC Entertainment, one of the oldest production houses that releases indie films has bought the rights to the film and they plan to dub it in Mandarin to release in late 2018 or early 2019. The Tamil film was produced by Hema Rukmani’s Thenandal Studios and collected approximately Rs 242 crore at the box office despite facing a lot of issue after the film released.
China has turned out to be a great market for content-oriented Indian films that are emotionally strong. For instance, films such as Dangal and Secret Superstar scored big at China’s box office and after the success of Dying to Survive, a Chinese film about a similar subject as Mersal received a great response, there are expectations that Mersal might do well too.
The president of HGC Entertainment, Li Ying said, “We found this to be a particularly touching story.”
