Two soldiers were injured in a militant attack close to the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara sector on Thursday.
Officials said the militants attacked an army patrol near the LoC fencing in Keran sector.
“In a standoff attack by terrorists on link patrol ahead of the LoC fence in Keran, two soldiers suffered non-fatal injuries,’’ defense spokesman Colonel Rajesh Kalia said.
He said the soldiers retaliated and the operation was still on.
The attack comes on a day when Union home minister Rajnath Singh began his two-day visit to the state to review the security situation.
“Leaving for Srinagar on a two day visit to Jammu and Kashmir. Looking forward to interact with the youth, people living in border areas and other sections of the society during my visit,’’ Singh tweeted.
