EW DELHI: Samsung finally pulled the curtain and launched its much-awaited flagship smartphones Galaxy S9 andGalaxy S9+ at the Mobile World Congress 2018, in Barcelona, Spain. The smartphones claim to offer all high-end specifications and come with a redesigned camera that can offer better low light images. Along with this, it also promises to deliver enhanced entertainment experience to the users. Looking at the specifications it is pretty clear that the device will face competition from the iPhone 8 and the Google Pixel 2. Wonder where the phone will stand in competition? Samsung Galaxy S9 sports a 5.8-inch Quad HD + Curved Super AMOLED display with 18:9 aspect ratio. The device comes with same Infinity Edge display which the company introduced in its Galaxy S8 smartphone. The company claims that Infinity Display blends right into the phone with virtually no distracting notches and comes with adaptive contrast enhancement that makes it less reflective under direct sunlight.
The Apple iPhone 8 comes with a smaller display as compared to the Samsung Galaxy S9. The handset features a 4.7-inch Retina HD display with 1334×750-pixel resolution. The display comes with True Tone technology which adjusts the white balance of the display to match the surrounding light.
The Google Pixel 2 boasts of a 5-inch full HD display with 1080×1920 pixel resolution with 16:9 aspect ratio. The smartphone doesn’t come with a full screen display and this gives an edge to the Samsung Galaxy S9.
At the time of the launch the company has not clearly specified the name of the processor powering the Samsung Galaxy S9. The company announced that the device is powered by 64-bit, Octa-core processor (2.7 GHz Quad + 1.7 GHz Quad). The company said that the processor is capable of offering powerful performance and enhanced image processing.
The Apple iPhone 8 on the other hand is powered by the company’s own A11 Bionic chipset. The processor is said to be 70% faster as compared to the older generation iPhone and is designed to offer enhanced augmented reality experience to the users.

Samsung Galaxy S9 runs on the lastest Android 8.0 Oreo operating system. The iPhone 8 runs on iOS 11 and the Google Pixel 2 is powered by Android 8.1 Oreo operating system.
RAM and storage
The Samsung Galaxy S9 offers 4GB RAM and comes in three storage variants — 64GB, 128GB and 256GB. The users can further expand the storage up to 400GB by adding a microSD card.
The company has not revealed the RAM capacity for iPhone 8, but the device comes in two storage versions — 64GB and 128GB. There no support for microSD card.
The Google Pixel 2 also comes with 4GB RAM and two storage version of 64GB and 128GB. However, there is no support for microSD card.
Camera is one of the main highlight of all the three smartphones. The Samsung Galaxy S9 features a Super Speed Dual Pixel 12MP autofocus rear camera with OIS and F1.5/F2.4 aperture. There is also an 8MP front camera with aperture f/1.7. The company claims that it has redesigned the cameras and the users will now be able to capture better low-light shots and slow motion videos using the device.
The Apple iPhone 8 offers a 12MP rear camera with LED flash, f/1.8 and digital zoom of up to 5X. The front houses a 7MP camera for selfies. The company claims that the camera is capable of taking better low light photos.
The Google Pixel 2 has a 12.2MP dual pixel camera with LED flash and a 8MP front snapper. The company reveals that the camera of the smartphone is is powered by our computational photography and machine learning (ML) capabilities which offers better results in terms of images captured.
The Samsung Galaxy S9 is backed by a 3,000 mAh battery with fast wireless charging support. The Apple iPhone 8 also comes with wireless charging support powered by Qi which charges up to 50% in 30 minutes. The Google Pixel 2 packs a 2,700 mAh battery and the company claims that 15 minutes of charging can offer 7 hours of battery backup.
Samsung Galaxy S9 is priced at $720 (roughly Rs 46,700), while the Apple iPhone 8 and the Google Pixel 2 comes with a starting price tag of Rs 55,998 and 48,299 respectively.
