For info on ‘miscreants’ who damaged bungalow, Akhilesh Yadav offers Rs 11 lakh

Claiming that the damages in his former bungalow — as pointed out in a PWD report — were the work of miscreants, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday announced a reward of Rs 11 lakh to anyone who had information on them. The sum, he added, would be paid by party workers.

“Lies are being spread on the matter of my bungalow [Bungalow number 4 at Kalidas Marg]. However, the issue is not really about the bungalow. The BJP has other conspiracies in mind. People went inside the bungalow in the night after I vacated it. People from some particular news channels were also invited. We announce a cash reward of Rs 11 lakh to whoever would give us the names of those who went inside the bungalow. Our party workers would contribute Rs 2,000 each and with that we will pay the reward,” said Akhilesh at a programme in Lucknow.

Four days ago, the report stated that the government building had suffered nearly Rs 6 lakh worth damages. Akhilesh had vacated the bungalow pursuant to a Supreme Court order that asked the Uttar Pradesh government to ensure the “official” bungalows allotted to former chief ministers be vacated.

The PWD, in its report claimed that construction worth Rs 5.57 crore was spent on the bungalow when it, the only body authorised to make modifications to state government buildings, had spent only Rs 90 lakh on it, indicating that there was unauthorised construction on the plot. It, however, does not mention the timeline of the alleged constructions.

On this, party spokesperson Rajendra Chaudhary brought out a map that, he claimed, was passed by the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) in November 2015 for proposed construction that was later executed by the PWD.

“This clearly shows that there was no unauthorised construction and that work worth around Rs 90 lakh was carried out. The government is trying to mislead the people with the help of its officers,” he said.

The “map” showed proposed construction of a guest block, children’s block, security room, waiting hall, electrical room and a pump room. The party also brought forward a letter (dated 26.2.2016) signed by additional secretary Vijay Bahadur Verma to the Director of Estate Directorate. It mentioned that an amount of Rs 89.990 lakh was sanctioned for the construction of a guest block and security and waiting hall. The

The PWD report further said that about Rs 174. 95 lakh was spent on a two-storey guest house, Rs 156.50 lakh\ was spent on two-floor security and waiting hall, Rs 78.39 lakh on beautification of the main building, Rs 56.53 lakh on the workers’ quarters, Rs 22.92 lakh on the generator room, Rs 13.19 lakh on flooring and Rs 1.23 lakh on pathway.

When asked about this, Chaudhary said he could not answer immediately as he needed to have a look at the details.
