BlackBerry Evolve X, Evolve launched in India

Optiemus Infracom on Thursday launched two new BlackBerry smartphones in India. BlackBerry Evolve and Evolve X smartphones feature a full touchscreen display unlike the recently launched Key2 which has a physical QWERTY keyboard and touch screen. BlackBerry Evolve X is priced at Rs 34,990, while Evolve will retail at Rs 24,990.

Evolve X and Evolve come with security and privacy features like other BlackBerry smartphones. The company says that facial recognition on the phones is also encrypted. Both phones also come pre-installed with BlackBerry’s DTEK security app.

The full touchscreen displays on Evolve X and Evolve smartphones are protected with Corning’s Gorilla Glass 5 protection. The displays also offer an aspect ratio of 18:9.

BlackBerry Evolve X will be available exclusively via Amazon India towards August end, while Evolve will sell around mid-September. There are some launch offers like Reliance Jio cashback of Rs 3,950 and 5% cashback on EMI transactions for ICICI credit card holders.

BlackBerry Evolve X and Evolve look very similar but have different elements under the hood. BlackBerry Evolve X is powered by Qualcomm’ Snapdragon 660 processor, while Evolve runs on Snapdragon 450 SoC. Evolve X comes with 6GB of RAM, and Evolve offers a smaller 4GB. Both phones offer the same 64GB of onboard storage with an option to expand it further up to 256GB via a microSD card.

BlackBerry Evolve X and Evolve both pack a 4,000mAh battery along with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0. In the photography department, Evolve X sports a dual-camera setup of 12-megapixel and 13-megapixel sensors. Evolve also has dual cameras which are a pair of 13-megapixel sensors. Up front both phones sport a 16-megapixel camera with fixed focus and selfie flash.

For audio, Evolve X is equipped with Dolby Atmos, and Evolve with Dolby Digital Sound.

Another differentiator between the two phones is the design of the fingerprint sensor. Evolve X has a circular fingerprint sensor, and Evolve has a square shaped one.

Rest of the specifications between the two remains the same. These include a 5.99-inch 1080×2160 pixels resolution, and Android 8.1 Oreo. The smartphones also feature a fingerprint sensor.
